Scented candles are more than decorative objects, they are sources of light, mood, and aroma, helping you create an inviting atmosphere at home. But to fully enjoy them, proper care is essential.
Lighting a candle might feel simple, but following a few easy care steps can extend its life and ensure an even, clean burn every time.
We created this guide to help you care for your Trufash scented candles, true olfactory works of art, and enjoy them in the best possible conditions.
Caring for your Trufash candle
Every Trufash candle is a story, a tribute to meaningful destinations and sensory memories, crafted with meticulous attention to detail.
They are made with premium coconut wax sourced from the European Union, and fine fragrance oils selected by master perfumers from France, the UK, and the US.
You can choose between natural cotton-linen wicks and wooden wicks, depending on the vessel and collection.
Each wick type offers a distinct sensory experience, and both require specific care.
First burn: set the memory
Whether your candle has a cotton or wood wick, the first burn is crucial.
Let the candle burn for 1–2 hours, until the entire surface has melted evenly to the edges. This forms a “memory layer”that prevents tunnelling and ensures consistent burns in the future. To maintain its quality and your environment, limit each burn to max. 4 hours.
Avoid extinguishing it too early, as this may cause uneven wax walls.
For wood wick candles, ensure the melted wax reaches at least a 1 cm radius before blowing it out the first time.
Trim the wick before each use
For cotton wicks:
- Trim to 5–7 mm before each burn using a wick trimmer or nail clippers.
- This prevents high flames, soot, and wick mushrooming.
For wooden wicks:
- Gently snap off the charred black tip (use your fingers or a tissue when cool).
- The ideal height is 3–5 mm, short and even across the top. A wooden wick that is too long or uneven may fail to stay lit.
Use a wick trimmer or even nail clippers for this.
Safety Tips and Candle Placement
- Place the candle on a heat-resistant surface, away from drafts, vents, and flammable items.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- Maintain at least 10 cm distance between burning candles.
- Do not move the candle while burning or when wax is hot.
Premium ingredients, gentle rituals
Our coconut wax burns clean and long. You’ll enjoy moments of calm and subtle fragrance with each use, whether it’s the classic cotton wick or the subtle crackle of a wooden one.
Because our candles are handmade, slight irregularities may occur, a dancing flame or soot on the container can happen.
Don’t worry, if the flame flickers excessively, blow it out, let it cool, trim the wick, and relight. If soot appears, wipe the glass gently with a damp cloth.
Storing your candle
To preserve fragrance and appearance:
- Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
- Cover the candle when not in use to protect it from dust.
When to stop burning
When the candle reaches 5 mm of wax, stop using it to avoid overheating and damaging the container or surface beneath.
To get the best scent diffusion, avoid placing the candle in very large or open spaces.

Reuse or recycle the container
Sustainability is part of Trufash’s ethos. Our candle jars are reusable and recyclable.
When the candle is finished:
- Wash the container with warm soapy water
- Reuse it or stay tuned for our refill programme, a sustainable way to bring your favourite scent back in the same premium jar.
In Summary
- Store in a cool, shaded space
- Trim the wick before each burn
- Burn evenly and avoid burning when less than 5 mm of wax remains
- Reuse or recycle the jar
Each flicker of your Trufash candle is a gateway to memory, a warm embrace of faraway lands and the craftsmanship of perfumers.
Let every light become a timeless journey.
